The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nun. [These letters (Nun, etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the pen and what the (angels) write (in the Records of men). (1) You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman. (2) And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted. (3) And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature. (4) You will see and they will also see (5) #NAME? (6) Verily, your Lord knows better, who (among men) has gone astray from His Path, and He knows better those who are guided. (7) Do not, then, yield to those who reject the Truth, decrying it as false; (8) They only want that you should relent, so that they may come to terms. (9) And do not yield to any contemptible swearer, (10) the fault-finder who goes around slandering, (11) or to one who places obstacles in the way of good being done or to the wicked transgressor, (12) Greedy therewithal, intrusive. (13) or that because he may possess wealth and children. (14) When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. (15) We shall mark him upon his nose! (16) We have tried them as we tried the owners of a certain orchard, who vowed to harvest all its fruits the next morning, (17) And were not willing to set aside a portion (for the poor). (18) Thereupon a calamity from your Lord passed over it while they were asleep, (19) and so by morning the orchard lay as though it had been fully harvested. (20) And they called one another at morning, (21) 'Come out to your tillage if you want to reap' (22) So they departed, whispering together, (23) No Miskin (poor man) shall enter upon you into it today. (24) They set out early in the morning, thinking they had the power to prevent. (25) But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way: (26) Aye! it is we who are deprived! (27) The most moderate of them said: said I not unto you, wherefore hallow him ye not! (28) They said, “Purity is to our Lord we have indeed been unjust.” (29) Then they approached one another, blaming each other. (30) [In the end] they said: "Oh, woe unto us! Verily, we did behave outrageously! (31) Maybe our Lord will give us a better orchard in its place; to our Lord do we penitently turn.” (32) Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know. (33)
