The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nun. CONSIDER the pen, and all that they write [therewith]! (1) You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman. (2) And verily thine shall be a hire unending. (3) And most surely you conform (yourself) to sublime morality. (4) And thou wilt see and they will see (5) #NAME? (6) Verily your Lord knows those who have gone astray from His path, and He knows those who are guided on the way. (7) Do not yield to those who reject the Truth. (8) They want you to make concessions to them and then they will reciprocate. (9) And obey not thou any swearer ignominous. (10) Or backbiter, calumniator, slanderer, (11) those who hinder good, the guilty aggressor, (12) Gross, and therewithal ignoble. (13) (He was so) because he had wealth and children. (14) That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old. (15) We shall brand him upon the muzzle! (16) We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden who had sworn that in the morning they would reap it, (17) and made no allowance [for the will of God]: (18) Wherefore an encircling visitation visited it even as they slept on. (19) And in the morning it was as if plucked. (20) In the morning they called out to one another, (21) Saying: go out betimes to your tilth if ye would reap. (22) So they departed, talking in low voices: (23) "Let no beggar come to the garden". (24) They set out early in the morning, thinking they had the power to prevent. (25) Then when they saw it, they said, “We have indeed strayed.” (26) Rather, we have been deprived." (27) The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah)? (28) They said, 'Glory be to God, our Lord; truly, we were evildoers.' (29) Then they turned, one against another, in reproach. (30) They said, 'Woe, alas for us! Truly, we were insolent. (31) [But] it may be that our Sustainer will grant us something better instead: for, verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn with hope!" (32) Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew. (33)
