The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nun. CONSIDER the pen, and all that they write [therewith]! (1) Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman. (2) Surely thou shalt have a wage unfailing; (3) And most surely you conform (yourself) to sublime morality. (4) So very soon, you will see and they too will realise (5) #NAME? (6) Verily, your Lord knows better, who (among men) has gone astray from His Path, and He knows better those who are guided. (7) Therefore do not listen to the deniers. (8) They want you to make concessions to them and then they will reciprocate. (9) And do not obey every mean swearer, (10) or to any defamer or one who spreads slander, (11) Who hinders men from (doing) good, the transgressor, the iniquitous, (12) Ignoble, besides all that, base-born; (13) Because he possesses wealth and sons. (14) that, whenever Our messages are conveyed to him, such a one says, "Fables of ancient times"? (15) We shall brand him on the muzzle. (16) Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning. (17) But did not add: "If God may please." (18) Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep. (19) So the (garden) became black by the morning, like a pitch dark night (in complete ruins). (20) At daybreak they called to each other: (21) 'Come forth betimes upon your tillage, if you would pluck!' (22) So they went off, whispering to one another, (23) "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day." (24) And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve. (25) But as soon as they beheld [the garden and could not recognize] it, they exclaimed, "Surely we have lost our way!" (26) Aye! it is we who are deprived! (27) A reasonable one among them said, "Did I not tell you that you should glorify God?" (28) They said: Glory be to our Lord, surely we were unjust. (29) Then they began to reproach one another. (30) They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors. (31) Perhaps our Lord will replace it with a better garden. We turn in repentance to our Lord". (32) Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew! (33)
