The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Nun. By the pen and what the scribes write. (1) You are not demented by the grace of your Lord. (2) Most surely, you will have a never ending reward. (3) for, behold, thou keepest indeed to a sublime way of life; (4) So thou shalt see, and they will see, (5) Which of you is afflicted with madness. (6) Surely thy Lord knows very well those who have gone astray from His way, and He knows very well those who are guided. (7) Do not, then, yield to those who reject the Truth, decrying it as false; (8) Fain would they that thou shouldst be pliant, so that they will be pliant. (9) And obey not thou any swearer ignominous. (10) A slanderer, going about with calumnies, (11) Hinderer of the good, trespasser; sinner. (12) Ignoble, besides all that, base-born; (13) because he has wealth and sons. (14) When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him, he says: "Tales of the men of old!" (15) We will brand him on the nose. (16) We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden who had sworn that in the morning they would reap it, (17) without adding ("if God wills"). (18) A visitor from your Lord circled around the garden during the night while they were asleep (19) So the (garden) became black by the morning, like a pitch dark night (in complete ruins). (20) So they called out to each other at the break of dawn, (21) "Go early to your farms, if you want to pluck the fruits". (22) So they departed, whispering together, (23) "Let no needy person come to you within it today." (24) And in the morning they went, having the power to prevent. (25) But when they saw it, they said: Lo! we are in error! (26) Aye! it is we who are deprived! (27) The best of them said: Did I not say to you, Why do you not glorify (Allah)? (28) "Glory to our Lord," they said; we were really in the wrong." (29) Then they approached one another, blaming each other. (30) Saying: "Alas the woe, we were iniquitous. (31) Maybe, our Lord will give us instead one better than it; surely to our Lord do we make our humble petition. (32) Such is the torment. And the torment of the Hereafter is far greater; if they but knew. (33)
