The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe, (1) Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman. (2) And verily, for you (O Muhammad SAW) will be an endless reward. (3) And indeed, you are of a great moral character. (4) You shall see and they will see (5) Which of you is afflicted with madness. (6) Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance. (7) Do not yield to those who reject the Truth. (8) they wish you would compromise, then, they would compromise. (9) Do not yield to any contemptible swearer of oaths, (10) the fault-finder who goes around slandering, (11) Hinderer of the good, transgressor, malefactor (12) Greedy therewithal, intrusive. (13) (who so acts) simply because he has wealth and sons, (14) When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him, he says: "Tales of the men of old!" (15) We shall brand him on the muzzle. (16) Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning. (17) Without saying: Insha' Allah (If Allah will). (18) Then there encompassed it a visitation from your Lord while they were sleeping. (19) Then in the morning it became as though it had been reaped. (20) And they cried out one unto another in the morning, (21) Saying: "Go to your tilth in the morning, if you would pluck the fruits." (22) So they went off, whispering to one another, (23) "Indeed, no needy person shall enter it today [and come] upon you [unawares,]" (24) and early they went, strongly bent upon their purpose. (25) But when they saw it, they said: Most surely we have gone astray (26) rather, we are utterly ruined.” (27) One who was temperate among them, said: "Did I not say: 'Why don't you priase God?'" (28) They said: Glory be to our Lord, surely we were unjust. (29) And they advanced one upon another, blaming each other. (30) They said: Alas for us! In truth we were outrageous. (31) Belike our Lord may exchange for us better garden than this; verily we are unto our Lord beseechers. (32) Such is the torment if only they knew that the torment in the life hereafter will certainly be greater. (33)
