The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Noon. By the Pen and that (the angels) write, (1) You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman. (2) And verily, for you (O Muhammad SAW) will be an endless reward. (3) surely thou art upon a mighty morality. (4) So you will see, and they will realise, (5) #NAME? (6) Your Lord knows best who has fallen by the wayside, and who has remained on the true path. (7) Do not yield to those who reject the Truth. (8) They wish that in some way you may yield, so they too might soften their stand. (9) Do not yield to one persistent in swearing, (10) Or backbiter, calumniator, slanderer, (11) Forbidder of good, outstepping the limits, sinful, (12) who is ignoble and besides all that, base-born; (13) because he has wealth and sons. (14) and whenever Our verses are rehearsed to him, he says: “These are fairy- tales of times gone by.” (15) Anon We shall brand him on snout. (16) We have tried them as we tried the owners of a certain orchard, who vowed to harvest all its fruits the next morning, (17) But did not add: "If God may please." (18) Then a visitation from thy Lord visited it, while they were sleeping, (19) And by morning it lay as if it had already been harvested, a barren land. (20) Then they cried out unto each other in the morning. (21) That, “Go to your fields at early morn, if you want to harvest.” (22) So they went off, whispering to one another, (23) [Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person." (24) They left early in the morning bent on this purpose. (25) When they saw the garden, they said, "Surely we have lost our way. (26) (No, we are not lost.) In fact, we have been deprived of everything". (27) Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify (Allah)?'" (28) They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!" (29) So they came towards each other, blaming. (30) They said: "Woe to us! Verily, we were Taghun (transgressors and disobedient, etc.) (31) "It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!" (32) Such was their punishment. But the punishment of the Everlasting Life is much greater, if they but knew. (33)
