The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe, (1) Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman. (2) And verily, for you (O Muhammad SAW) will be an endless reward. (3) For you are truly of a sublime character. (4) You will see and they will also see (5) which of you was bereft of reason. (6) Your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His path and who is rightly guided. (7) Do not yield to those who reject the Truth. (8) Fain would they that thou shouldst be pliant, so that they will be pliant. (9) And do not yield to any contemptible swearer, (10) Detracter, spreader abroad of slanders, (11) Hinderer of the good, trespasser; sinner. (12) moreover ignoble, (13) or that because he may possess wealth and children. (14) When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him, he says: "Tales of the men of old!" (15) Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout! (16) Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning (17) Without saying: Insha' Allah (If Allah will). (18) Then a visitation from thy Lord visited it, while they were sleeping, (19) And by morning it lay as if it had already been harvested, a barren land. (20) Then they called out one to another as soon as the morning broke, (21) Saying: "Go to your tilth in the morning, if you would pluck the fruits." (22) Thus they launched forth, whispering unto one another, (23) 'No needy person shall set foot in it today' (24) They set out early in the morning, thinking they had the power to prevent. (25) But as soon as they beheld the orchard, (they cried out): “We have certainly lost the way; (26) Rather, we have been deprived." (27) The best among them said: "Did I not tell you: why do you not say: Insha' Allah (If Allah will)." (28) They said, 'Glory be to God, our Lord; truly, we were evildoers.' (29) Then some of them advanced against others, blaming each other. (30) Saying: "Alas the woe, we were iniquitous. (31) It may be that our Lord will give us better than it in exchange. To our Lord we humbly turn' (32) Such is the chastisement; and the chastisement of the Hereafter is assuredly even greater, if only they knew. (33)
