The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Nuun* by oath of the pen and by oath of what is written by it. (Alphabet of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) By the grace of your Lord, you are not a mad man. (2) And lo! thine verily will be a reward unfailing. (3) You have attained a high moral standard. (4) Soon wilt thou see, and they will see, (5) #NAME? (6) Verily, your Lord knows better, who (among men) has gone astray from His Path, and He knows better those who are guided. (7) Then do not obey the deniers. (8) They wish that thou shouldst compromise, then they would compromise. (9) Do not heed a contemptible swearer, (10) A defamer, spreader abroad of slander. (11) Hinderer of the good, transgressor, malefactor (12) moreover ignoble, (13) It is because he is possessed of wealth and children (14) That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old. (15) We will soon singe his pig-nose. (16) We have tried you as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed to gather the fruits in the morning (17) Without making exception. (18) Thereupon a calamity from your Lord passed over it while they were asleep, (19) and in the morning it was as if it were a garden plucked. (20) Then they called out one to another as soon as the morning broke, (21) “Hurry to your orchard if you would gather its fruit.” (22) So they set out, while lowering their voices, (23) 'No needy person shall set foot in it today' (24) They were resolved to repel the beggars. (25) But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way: (26) rather, we are utterly ruined.” (27) The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah)? (28) They said, "All glory belongs to God. We have certainly been unjust". (29) So they came towards each other, blaming. (30) They said 'Woe to us, truly we were insolent' (31) "It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!" (32) SUCH is the suffering [with which We try some people in this world]; but greater by far will be the suffering [which sinners shall have to bear] in the life to come - if they but knew it! (33)
