The Pen (Al-Qalam)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Embryo (Al-Alaq) before Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,- (1) Thou art not, through the grace of thy Lord, mad. (2) And verily, thine shall be a reward neverending (3) And most surely you conform (yourself) to sublime morality. (4) You shall see and they will see (5) #NAME? (6) Your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His path and who is rightly guided. (7) So obey thou not those who cry lies. (8) they wish you would compromise, then, they would compromise. (9) And do not yield to any contemptible swearer, (10) backbiter, going about with slander, (11) obstructing virtues, a sinful transgressor, (12) Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,- (13) because he has wealth and sons. (14) When you recite Our revelations to him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." (15) We shall brand him upon the muzzle! (16) Verily We! We have proved them even as We proved the fellows of a garden when they sware that they would surely reap it in the morning. (17) without adding ("if God wills"). (18) Then there passed by on the (garden) something (fire) from your Lord at night and burnt it while they were asleep. (19) and so by morning the orchard lay as though it had been fully harvested. (20) Then they called out one to another as soon as the morning broke, (21) 'Come out to your tillage if you want to reap' (22) So they set out, while lowering their voices, (23) Let there not enter upon you today any needy man. (24) And they went in the morning with strong intention, thinking that they have power (to prevent the poor taking anything of the fruits therefrom). (25) But when they saw it, they said: Most surely we have gone astray (26) No. In fact we have been deprived of it." (27) A reasonable one among them said, "Did I not tell you that you should glorify God?" (28) They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers." (29) Some of them started to blame others. (30) They said, “Woe to us we were indeed rebellious.” (31) Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous." (32) Such is the punishment (in this life), but truly, the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they but knew. (33)
