The Column (Al-Suff)
14 verses, revealed in Medina after Mutual Blaming (Al-Taghaabun) before Friday (Al-Jumu'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth glorifies Allah. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (1) Believers, why do you preach what you do not practice? (2) How despicable it is in the sight of Allah that you may preach what you do not practice. (3) Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly. (4) Now when Moses spoke to his people, [it was this same truth that he had in mind:] "O my people! Why do you cause me grief, the while you know that I am an apostle of God sent unto you?" And so, when they swerved from the right way, God let their hearts swerve from the truth: for God does not bestow His guidance upon iniquitous folk. (5) And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad." But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, "this is evident sorcery!" (6) Who is more unjust than he who invents a lie against God when he is called to submit? God does not show the evil-doers the way. (7) Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse. (8) it is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the true religion, so that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, however much the polytheists may dislike it. (9)
