The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! (1) And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. (2) And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. (3) And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. (4) profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: (5) so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, (6) They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. (7) Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." (8) ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. (9) Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" (10) We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. (11) and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. (12) And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, (13) Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. (14) We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? (15) How was then My punishment and My commination! (16) And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? (17) Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! (18) Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. (19) Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. (20) How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! (21) And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? (22)
