The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. (1) But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" (2) And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. (3) And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - (4) Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; (5) So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, (6) Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, (7) Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. (8) ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. (9) He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” (10) Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, (11) And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. (12) But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: (13) Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. (14) We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? (15) How was then My punishment and My commination! (16) And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? (17) 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? (18) Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: (19) Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). (20) for, how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! (21) And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? (22)
