The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. (1) And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. (2) They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). (3) And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), (4) The pinnacle of wisdom so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? (5) So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. (6) They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, (7) Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." (8) ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. (9) Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". (10) We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. (11) and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. (12) And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, (13) Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. (14) And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? (15) How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. (16) And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? (17) 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. (18) We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, (19) which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. (20) How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. (21) Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? (22)
