The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 And We sent against them a howling wind in a Day of continuous of ill fortune 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
