The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad SAW to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). (1) Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' (2) They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. (3) And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: (4) Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. (5) So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, (6) They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. (7) hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" (8) ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. (9) Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. (10) Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water (11) and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. (12) But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: (13) That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. (14) We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? (15) How was then My punishment and My commination! (16) Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? (17) Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? (18) Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: (19) Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. (20) Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! (21) Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? (22)
