The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) He does not speak out of his own desires. (3) It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) While he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, (8) until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. (9) And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) He saw Him indeed another time (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza (19) And Manat, the third, the last? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
