The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: (4) He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (5) One vigorous; and he grew clear to view (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10) The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) Indeed he saw him a second time, (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) near which is Paradise. (15) (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. (16) Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. (17) truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. (18) Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
