The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him descend a second time: (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. (18) (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, (19) and the third one, Manat? -- (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) This indeed is an unjust division! (22) These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. (25)
