The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, (1) Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) Taught to him by one intense in strength - (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, (7) He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. (8) And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) His heart did not lie of what he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
