The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped (1) Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. (2) nor does he speak out of his own desire. (3) It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, (4) and taught to him (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) While he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. (8) So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him was with body and soul.) (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him another time (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? (19) and the third one, Manat? -- (20) Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: (21) Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
