The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, (15) When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? (21) That indeed is an unfair division -- (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. (23) Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
