The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired (4) and taught to him (5) One strong of make. Then he stood straight. (6) And reached the highest pinnacle. (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. (10) The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. (11) Will you then argue with him about what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
