The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
