The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) Neither does he speak of his own will. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) by the great mighty one (Gabriel), (6) being on the higher horizon. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, (9) So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. (10) His heart added no untruth to what he saw. (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) This is an unfair distinction! (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
