The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
