The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form (6) And reached the highest pinnacle. (7) then came down close (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. (17) Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) Is it for you the males and for Him the females? (21) That, then, is an unjust division. (22) These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. (25)
