The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. (7) Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. (10) His heart added no untruth to what he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) And he certainly saw him in another descent (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, (15) When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. (16) his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray (17) He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. (25)
