The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (3) It is not but a revelation revealed, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; (6) While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. (7) then came down close (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. (10) The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat the other third? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) That is indeed an unfair division! (22) These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
