The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) by the great mighty one (Gabriel), (6) And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. (7) and then drew near, and came close, (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) And another, the third (goddess), Manat? (20) Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
