The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending (14) near which is Paradise. (15) with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour (16) (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. (17) He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) and the third one, Manat? -- (20) What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. (23) Shall man have whatever he craves? (24) But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. (25)
