The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) nor does he speak out of his own desire. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) Taught to him by one intense in strength - (5) [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. (17) He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. (18) So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? (19) and Manat the third, the other? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) That is indeed an unfair division! (22) They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
