The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it setteth, (1) Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (5) by the great mighty one (Gabriel), (6) And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. (10) The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. (11) Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (16) The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. (17) He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
