The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) Then he drew near, then he bowed (8) until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) close to the Garden of Refuge. (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? (20) Is it for you the males and for Him the females? (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
