The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) being on the higher horizon. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) Will you then argue with him about what he saw? (12) He saw Him indeed another time (13) by the lote tree beyond which none may pass (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) and the third one, Manat? -- (20) What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Or shall man have what he coveteth? (24) But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. (25)
