The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) So will you dispute with him over what he saw? (12) For indeed he saw him at a second descent, (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) near which is Paradise. (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third, the last? (20) Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? (21) That indeed were an unfair division! (22) These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. (23) Or shall man have whatever he fancies? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
