The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) nor does he speak out of his own desire. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) One strong of make. Then he stood straight. (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) then he drew near, and became close (8) And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. (9) so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! (17) He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and Manat the third, the other? (20) What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
