The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he drew near, then he bowed (8) until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. (9) And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him descend a second time: (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) That, then, is an unjust division. (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
