The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); (6) And he is in the highest part of the horizon. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) And certainly he saw him descend a second time: (13) at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray (17) and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) That indeed is a division unfair! (22) They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have whatever he fancies? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
