The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, (5) by the great mighty one (Gabriel), (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) (11) So will you dispute with him over what he saw? (12) Indeed he saw him a second time, (13) Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, (19) and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? (20) What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Shall man have whatever he craves? (24) To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. (25)
