The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) And reached the highest pinnacle. (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) His heart added no untruth to what he saw. (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) near which is the Garden of Abode. (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) This is an unfair distinction! (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. (25)
