The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) And reached the highest pinnacle. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) Will you dispute with him what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that which covers covered the lote-tree; (16) The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. (17) He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, (19) as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) That, then, is an unjust division. (22) These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. (23) Shall man have whatever he craves? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
