The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. 25
