The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) and taught to him (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. (18) (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (23) Or shall man have what he coveteth? (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
