The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, (1) your companion is neither astray, neither errs, (2) and neither does he speak out of his own desire: (3) It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, (7) and then drew near, and came close, (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) Will you dispute with him what he saw? (12) He saw Him indeed another time (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) close to the Garden of Refuge. (15) When that which covers covered the lote-tree; (16) (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, (19) And another, the third (goddess), Manat? (20) What, have you males, and He females? (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. (23) Or shall man have whatever he fancies? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
