The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, (1) your comrade is not astray, neither errs, (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is a revelations which has been revealed to him (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. (10) The heart lied not in that which he saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) near which is the Garden of Abode. (15) Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) That indeed were an unfair division! (22) These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! (23) Or shall man have what he coveteth? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
