The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) He does not speak out of his own desires. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. (5) One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form (6) appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, (9) And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! (12) Indeed, he saw him in another descent (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; (16) The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. (17) and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. (18) Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, (19) And subsequently the third, the Manat? (20) What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? (21) That is indeed an unfair division! (22) These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
