The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (3) It is but a revelation revealed. (4) and taught to him (5) [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Then he drew nigh and came down (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) His heart did not falsify what he perceived. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. (17) He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) And Manat, the third, the other? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! (23) Or shall man have whatever he fancies? (24) But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. (25)
