The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) It is a revelations which has been revealed to him (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; (9) And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! (18) Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: (21) Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. (23) Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
