The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he drew nigh and came down (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. (10) His heart did not lie of what he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (14) nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. (17) Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. (18) So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That indeed were an unfair division! (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. (25)
