The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. (7) Then he approached and descended (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) Will you dispute with him what he saw? (12) And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) near unto the garden of promise. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: (21) That, then, is an unjust division. (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, (24) All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. (25)
