The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
