The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) He does not speak out of his own desires. (3) It is but a revelation revealed. (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) One strong of make. Then he stood straight. (6) being on the higher horizon, (7) Then he approached and came closer, (8) So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) And he certainly saw him in another descent (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. (16) (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. (17) Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. (18) So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? (19) and Manat the third, the other? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. (23) Is the human to have whatever he fancies? (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
