The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) He does not speak out of his own desires. (3) This is only revelation communicated, (4) The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) When he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) then he drew near, and became close (8) until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. (11) Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? (12) And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. (13) by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That were indeed an unjust division. (22) They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Can ever man get what he desires? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
