The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, (1) your comrade is not astray, neither errs, (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) One of mighty powers hath taught it him. (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. (8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (9) When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. (10) The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) He saw Him indeed another time (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) Near it is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that which covers covered the lote-tree; (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) That is indeed an unfair division! (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? (24) Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). (25)
