The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, (1) your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, (2) And he speaketh not of his own desire. (3) It is not but a revelation revealed, (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. (6) And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. (7) then he drew near, and became close (8) two bows' length away, or nearer, (9) He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. (10) The heart lied not in that which he saw. (11) What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him in another descent, (13) At the farthest lote-tree; (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" (21) That is indeed an unfair division! (22) They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (25)
