The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. (1) That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, (5) very strong; he stood poised, (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. (9) so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! (12) And verily he saw him yet another time (13) At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - (14) Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) And another, the third (goddess), Manat? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Is the human to have whatever he fancies? (24) But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. (25)
