The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, (2) nor does he speak out of his desire. (3) It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); (6) being on the higher horizon, (7) Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, (8) until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. (9) And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) And assuredly he saw him at another descent. (13) By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) That indeed is an unfair division -- (22) They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. (23) Or shall man have whatever he fancies? (24) But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. (25)
