The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is a revelations which has been revealed to him (4) He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (5) Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); (6) standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. (9) And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. (10) His heart added no untruth to what he saw. (11) Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? (12) For indeed he saw him at a second descent, (13) by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, (14) near which is the Garden of Abode. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. (17) Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. (18) Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, (19) And Manat the other third? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) This indeed is an unjust division! (22) They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. (23) What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
