The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: (1) Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. (2) Neither does he speak of his own will. (3) Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. (8) until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. (9) And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) what, will you dispute with him what he sees? (12) Indeed he saw him a second time, (13) By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, (14) close to the Garden of Refuge. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, (19) and about the third deity, al-Manat? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) This is certainly an unjust apportioning. (22) These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. (23) Shall man have whatever he craves? (24) Allah's is the last and the first. (25)
