The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped (1) Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. (2) nor speaks he out of caprice. (3) It is not but a revelation revealed, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) One strong of make. Then he stood straight. (6) being on the higher horizon, (7) then drew near and suspended hung, (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. (10) The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. (11) Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? (12) For indeed he saw him at a second descent, (13) to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) (14) by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, (15) When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (16) The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. (17) He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. (18) (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) Is the male for you and for Him the female? (21) That indeed is a division most unfair! (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! (24) To God belong the End and the Beginning. (25)
