The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: (1) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. (4) something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: (5) One vigorous; and he grew clear to view (6) While he was in the highest part of the horizon: (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. (10) The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: (11) Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? (12) And indeed, he saw him a second time (13) Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (14) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: (17) for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? (19) and, another, the third manat? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. (23) Or is there for man whatever he wishes? (24) To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. (25)
