The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 and taught to him 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
