The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. (4) something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) then he drew near, and became close (8) until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. (9) then revealed to his servant that he revealed. (10) The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (11) Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? (12) And he certainly saw him in another descent (13) Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (14) near which is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (16) (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! (17) and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. (18) Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza (19) And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (20) Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? (21) That, then, is an unjust division. (22) These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! (23) Can ever man get what he desires? (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
