The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it sets: (1) your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; (2) and neither does he speak out of his own desire: (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) being on the higher horizon. (7) Then he approached and came closer, (8) until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer (9) Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) Will you dispute with him what he saw? (12) He saw Him indeed another time (13) Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) When the tree was covered with a covering, (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza (19) And Manat, the third, the last? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. (25)
