The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, (1) your comrade is not astray, neither errs, (2) And he does not say anything by his own desire. (3) This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, (4) He was taught by one Mighty in Power, (5) Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. (6) while he was in the highest horizon; (7) Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, (8) until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. (9) Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. (10) His heart lies not of what he saw; (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) Indeed, he saw him another time (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. (15) (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. (18) Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) What, have you males, and He females! (21) That is indeed an unjust division. (22) They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. (23) Or shall man have what he wishes? (24) But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. (25)
