The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it setteth. (1) Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. (2) Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. (3) It is naught but revelation that is revealed, (4) taught by One who is Stern in power. (5) Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, (6) While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. (7) Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. (10) The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And he certainly saw him in another descent (13) Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: (14) Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (15) when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. (16) His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. (17) Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. (18) So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? (19) And another, the third (goddess), Manat? (20) Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? (21) That, then, is an unjust division. (22) these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! (23) Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! (24) And to God belongs the First and the Last. (25)
