The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, (1) Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. (2) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (5) Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm (6) being on the higher horizon. (7) Then he drew near and hung above suspended, (8) he was but two bows' length or even nearer, (9) So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? (12) And certainly he saw him descend a second time: (13) Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: (14) Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. (15) When that which covers covered the lote-tree; (16) his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. (17) Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. (18) Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: (19) as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? (20) What! for you the males and for Him the females! (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. (23) Or shall man have whatever he fancies? (24) So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. (25)
