The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. (1) Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; (2) Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. (3) This is naught but a revelation revealed, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, (6) While he was on the uppermost horizon. (7) Then he drew near and drew closer (8) Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. (9) When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. (10) His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. (11) What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! (12) And he certainly saw him in another descent (13) by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary (14) Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. (15) When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. (16) His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, (17) Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. (18) Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, (19) And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? (20) Are yours the males and His the females? (21) That indeed is a division unfair! (22) They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. (23) Can the human being have whatever he wishes? (24) But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. (25)
